General Thoughts:

The Foxy theme is one of the themes you get in a Elegant Themes subscription. It is a great theme. It is one of my favorite themes out there. I created my own church site with it and a few others. I like it because it is simple to use and has a clean, classic look that looks good on all devices.

Who This is For:

I would recommend the Foxy theme for everyone, from a beginner WordPress user to advanced designers. Elegant Themes are very easy to set up and require little to no coding ability. Their home page is easy to set up. You can create all your pages with their drag-and-drop builder.

Pros:

Price: You can get a quality, professional-looking theme for $69 a year (personal level). However, I would suggest you upgrade to the Developer level for $89 because you get some pretty great features. Click here for more information about their price levels.

Professional Look for a Variety of Churches: The Foxy theme is really flexible. A variety of churches (traditional, contemporary, etc) could use this theme to give an accurate feel of who their church is. Because the theme is clean and simple, your photos and writing can accurately communicate what type of church you are.

Great Responsive Format: I really like how this theme looks on tablets and cell phones. Its responsive feature is built in and doesn’t require any work.

Great Support: There is a knowledge base where you can search for answers. You can also post new questions, and their staff is really quick to respond to the questions you ask via their help center. You can get help within an hour to a day. What I appreciate about them is that they don’t consider any question too small to answer.

Home Page Set Up: I like the layout of the Foxy Home Page. It is very easy to set up. Don’t believe me? Watch this step-by-step tutorial on how to do this.

Home Page Slider: The Home Page Slider is one of the biggest assets of this theme. You can make it look really good with photo editing software, but you definitely don’t need it. You can trim the image in WordPress and add your titles and subtitles via the pages.

Unlimited Colors: You can change all of the colors on this theme through their easy-to-use customization menu! This means you can create any color scheme you want!

Multiple Page Layout Options: There are many different page layouts which make creating your site easier. One of the layouts is a contact page that includes a Captcha system that greatly reduces the amount of spam email your receive.

Column Page Layout Options: If you install the Elegant Builder plugin (which is free with the Developer level), you get a great drag-and-drop builder. This makes it very easy to lay out your page any way you want it with a variety of different columns (2, 3, 4, and 5). If you install the Elegant Shortcodes, you can do this with shortcodes as well.

Social Media Integration: I love how easy they make it to let people connect to your church presence on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, etc.

Cons:

Update Process: The one knock I have on Elegant Themes is the way that you have to upgrade your theme when a new one comes out. You can not click on an update within your WordPress dashboard. They notify you of an update there. You then have to log into their site and download the zip file. The last step is going back to your site to delete the current version of the theme and install the new. Nothing is lost through this process, but it is a few extra steps that aren’t required with other themes.

Neutral Things to be Aware of:

Yearly Subscription: I was originally against a recurring yearly payment. I am now a big believer in Elegant Themes. Here is why. Elegant Themes is great in that you have so many themes at no extra cost. This is a different philosophy. Rather than paying for the ability to load a single theme onto one site, you are paying for the right to download unlimited themes for unlimited sites for a period of time. This is great if you have more than one site (such as different outreach ministries). I have personally purchased a lifetime membership for $250. I know this seems like a lot of money at first. It is twice as much as other themes recommend. However, Elegant Themes continues to created beautiful new themes. Since your site is created with the Elegant Themes system, it is very easy to update your site and give it a makeover whenever you want. It will happen very seamlessly. This will save you time and money in the long run.

SEO Plugin Recommended: Elegant Themes does not include SEO in their design, so you will have to install a search engine optimization plugin.

Sermon Plugin Recommended: Elegant Themes is a general theme, so you will want to use a sermon plugin. Click here to read about the plugins we recommend.
